The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) assists South Carolina and communities throughout the U.S. to access desperately needed primary health care in areas where health care providers are in short supply by awarding scholarships and loan repayment to clinicians in exchange for at least two years service in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
As NHSC Ambassadors, Emily Warren and Kim Stephens:
- Advocate for service to primary care and medically underserved areas
- Counsel students on NHSC benefits and opportunities
- Mentor students and clinicians
Being an Ambassador for the NHSC is a natural extension of what the HPS coordinators do for Lowcountry AHEC. The goals are the same: to recruit committed healthcare workers to practice in areas of the Lowcountry that are lacking quality health resources.
